What does this measure tell us?

Following a catastrophic disaster, the community may be on their own for a period of time because of the size of the area affected, lost communications, and impassable roads.  It is well understood that emergency service personnel will not be able to help everyone immediately.  CERT Training is designed to prepare members in the community to take simple actions to save lives and protect property.  This measure tells us whether or not we have a sustained effort to provide initial CERT Training to community members as well as provide regular skill-building exercises as a means to improve readiness, maintain contacts, and further the network of first responders in the community.

Goal being measured:

Develop a Fire & Injury Prevention, Public Affairs Program.

CERT Training is an important component of the District’s Public Affairs Program.  The training covers basic skills that are important to know in a disaster when emergency services are not available.  With training and practice and by working as a team, CERT members will be able to do the greatest good for the greatest number after a disaster, while protecting them from becoming a victim.
